PORT HOPE - Deputy Mayor Jeff Gilmer hopes to see a favourable response to this year's Delectable Winter Meal Deals campaign.

It's a partnership between the tourism department and 17 local restaurants, Gilmer said at this week's committee of the whole session.

Among the participating restaurants are Basil's Market and Deli, Dimitri's Family Restaurant, Jim's Pizzeria & Spaghetti House, Summerhill Bed and Breakfast Tea Room, Black Beans Steakhouse & Lounge, Harry's Little City of Bricks, Trattoria Gusto, Winchester Arms, Captain George's Fish and Chips, Carlyle Inn and Bistro, March 59, Queenie's Bake Shop, Dreamers Cafe and Pita Express.

It is recommended you contact individual restaurants for details and reservations.

The fixed-price menu deals are offered between Jan. 28 and Feb. 10, Gilmer said.

"On Valentine's Day, you'll be on your own."

For more information about the promotion, call 905-885-2004 or 1-888-767-8467.

Winchester Arms dominant in Port Hope men's hockey

PORT HOPE -- Winchester Arms has won the 'Window Guy' trophy as champions of the Port Hope Men's Hockey League for the second year in a row, and the tenth time in the last 13 years.
The Arms defeated Port Hope Sports Physiotherapy in the finals two games to none (8-2, 6-1). The Winchester crew finished the season in first place, then waltzed through the playoffs, also defeating Pro-Fab two games to none in the semifinals. The team, consisting of players ranging in age from their twenties to forties, had a balanced attack throughout the season, a stingy defence, and strong goaltending.

Port Hope Sports Physio made it to the finals by besting Enterprise in the semifinals. In the 'B' playoffs, Wakely's beat Home Hardware in the final and El Rod in the semis, while Home Hardware advanced by winning two games over Chadwick's.
